Joshua Trees Are in Decline!

There were once over 100 Million Joshua Trees. Today there are less than 20 million. Only about 20% of the trees have survived.

Mega-Fires in the Mojave Desert have destroyed over 2.5 Million Trees in the last Few Years.

Stop The Aratina Solar Project!

Shockingly, Aratina has received approval from the California Fish & Game Department to bulldoze 4000 old growth Joshua Trees.

Historic Range of Joshua Trees

It is estimated that there were over 100 million Joshua Trees at their peak. Joshua Trees thrived all the way in to Mexico - and at elevations close to Sea Level.

Joshua Trees Thrived for Millions of Years, back when there were Sabor-Tooth Tigers, Wholly Mammoths, and Giant Sloths. All of those animals are now extinct, And soon the Joshua Trees will be extinct as well.

Current Range of Joshua Trees

Today, there are less than 20 Million Joshua Trees, Only about 20% of their habitat remains. The Joshua Trees habitat has been devastated so severely, that Climate Change models forecast their extinction by 2100! They now exist only above 2500 ft elevation - And only in the High Desert peaks.

They have no where else to go!

October 2022 Update

The Next
California Fish & Game Meeting
is scheduled for February 2023

We are trying to get permanent state-wide protections for the Western Joshua Trees.

Without state-wide protections for the trees, many local communities cut the trees down as they wish - to build Walmarts and Strip Malls.

California Fish & Game is the authority that decides if state-wide protections are warranted for the Joshua Trees, under The California Endangered Species Act (CESA).

Currently, Western Joshua Tree have ‘temporary’ CESA Protections while Fish & Game decides if the protections should be permanent. The Commission now has five voting members. We are expecting a final vote in February, 2023.

Unprecedented Wildfires killed 1.3 Million Joshua Trees in 2020

June 16, 2022 Update

The California Fish & Game Commision only had four (of five) voting members,
so the Vote at the California Fish and Game was a 2:2 tie.
This means that the temporary CESA protections
remain in place for Joshua Trees.

May 2022 Update

In September 2020, the California Fish and Wildlife Commission granted Joshua Trees temporary protections as a “Threatened” species under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA).

However, in April 2022, California Fish and Wildlife has now recommended that these protections are not warrented -
Ignoring all existing Climate Science data!

These protections will be removed if the public does not act!

It is now up to you to write
California Fish and Wildlife
and demand protections for joshua trees

The Public Comment period for the Joshua Trees ends in early June of 2022. Now is the time to act!

“I Thought They Were Protected”
Joshua Tree
Documentary

The Joshua Tree habitat is threatened by Climate Change, WIldfires and Urban Development. There are lots of bad guys out there who want to cut down the Joshua Trees to build Walmarts and solar farms - and they have the $$$$$ to stop protection efforts.
